Notary Public/Commissioner for Oaths

Notary

If a document from Singapore is to be used in a foreign country it must first satisfy that country’s legal requirements. Different countries have different requirements. Most countries require the document to be:

  1. Witnessed or Attested to by a Notary Public;
  2. Authenticated by the Singapore Academy of Law;
  3. Endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and
  4. Consularised by the Embassy or Consulate of the country in which the document is to be used.

The above process will be proof for the foreign country that the document submitted is genuine and reliable. Some of the above steps are not necessary when the document is original and issued by a government authority, such as ACRA or Registry of Births & Deaths. It will however need to be legalised.
